Ellen Chaderton, Part 1 Architectural Assistant
I completed my RIBA Part 1 at the University of Sheffield, where I developed a deep appreciation for architecture that is not only aesthetically considered but also deeply responsive to its social and physical context. My studies encouraged a reflective and inquisitive approach to design, placing human experience at the centre of each project. During my time at university, I became particularly interested in how the built environment can shape the way people interact, feel, and connect with the spaces they occupy.
Before completing my degree, I was fortunate to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of residential and commercial projects. This practical exposure allowed me to see first-hand how design decisions play out in real-world settings, strengthening my passion for the profession and confirming my desire to contribute meaningfully to the field at this early stage in my career. I find real fulfilment in considering the finer details of a building: those often subtle but powerful elements that directly impact the lives of its users. My aim is always to go beyond meeting functional requirements, instead crafting thoughtful, user-centred spaces that genuinely enhance people’s everyday experiences.
I’m delighted to be part of the team at DMBA, where I can pursue my interests in both architecture and interior design in a collaborative and creative environment. I’m particularly drawn to the practice’s commitment to sensitive architectural interventions and its refined approach to interior detailing. I have a strong interest in materiality and the tactile qualities that bring richness to a space, as well as the unexpected moments that give architecture its magic. I believe great design can surprise and delight, and I’m excited to be part of a studio that shares that belief: creating places that not only serve, but also inspire.
